Discouraged

My ankles are shot. Both. Tendonitis has flared up again. Last year I was forced to wear an orthopedic boot for more than a month until the pain subsided.

There was no change in my walking routine… it just happened… I can’t control changes in my body. I am in pain and can’t walk.

On a positive note I lost 5 pounds last week mostly due to a thread “Letting go of binge eating.” No binge eating for 7 days.

I now use a recumbent bike for about an hour doing interval training.

But… the grandiose plans for the 4th of July went down the drain. The plans included walking, hiking, and attending all the grand events in Seattle on foot.

Health is precious. It’s like the air. We don’t notice it when we breath and there is enough air but take it away…

so sorry to hear about your ankles. :( it really sucks when something goes wrong like that. 5 pounds, however, is something to NOT be discouraged about…so congrats!

so sorry to hear about your tendonitis. If it’s a recurrent problem, maybe you should see a physiotherapist (physical therapist i think is what they call them over there) for a biomechanical assessment. Just to have a look at the boney alignment in your feet…. and the angles between your hips and knees. Sometimes this can be out a bit, putting too much stress on your ankle and knee tendons causing tendonitis.

If this is the problem, it’s really easy to correct with specific, therapist prescribed exercises and orthotics (special insoles you put into your shoes).

Hope you feel better soon girlie!

I have been to a very good orthopedist. It’s not an alignment problem. She said it is related to aging and irreversible. It is progressing. I WISH it was a biomechanical problem!!!

My trainer has been working on strengthening muscles around knees and rebalancing my body. It’s helping… but I have changes in my tissues and this is the real cause for tendonitis.

I signed out, saw the word Discouraged in the the most popular blog’s today column and looked and it is you. SO sorry to hear about the injury. I HEAR YOU about not having the same body as before. I can not work out at the high intensity I use to. No SUPER long walks for me and even some of those strength training moves may have to be out, at least for sometime. A doctor asked me if I ran or jogged, I said no. But I have always been super active. Well, it is so discouraging. Just last night I expressed my fears about aging to David and he was super supportive. We can only do so much and we learn even if it is the hard way I guess what is too much. I am wearing just a knee support these days to remind me, because I still want to do crazy things like cross my legs like the Buddha. I let out a scream. MAYBE I WILL REMEMBER NOT TO DO THAT FOR AWHILE…..lol

I hope you will recover quickly. You eat so well and have so much knowledge so I will refrain from spewing…hehe Love ya lots and take care. *HUGS*

I have been having trouble with foot pain, had it last year and it went away after I quit Tai Chi but now, for no reason it’s back. It is more painful after I sit, and when I get up and move around a bit it seems to be better. Mine is in the tops of my feet, and really hurts when I first stand up and can hardly walk. I wonder, could it be Tendonitis? I am certainly older, if that’s all it takes. ;) I have a dr’s apt tomorrow, I will ask him what he thinks. I always learn something here at bs. Thanks, and I hope you get better soon.

Hey Tatiana, I’m sorry the tendonitis recurred. Maybe after it returns to a healthy state you can start spending more time with me in an elliptical challenge?? ;)

Seriously, hang in there. You are an inspiration to a lot of people, me included. I’ve never met a more dedicated walker and fitness buff. Keep focusing on the binging forum and progress will continue for you, I think.

I am sorry to hear about your ankles. It’s hard not to be able to do something you enjoy b/c of your injury stops you. I have plantar fasciitis that flares up about every 4 months. I can’t stand it when I have to stop running for a week b/c of the pain. But mine is nothing compared to what you have to deal with. Congrats on the 5 lbs! Just got to change up the exercise. I do eliptical when Mine flares up.

so sorry to hear about the ankles. you really have been making great strides (ha ha bad pun) for yourself and around here on BS between your walking and the binge thread. i hope you find foot friendly things to do while those heal. do you swim? also, if it helps, i was once told that my back problems were degenerative and would never get better only to prove them wrong by being pretty much fine. hang in there and what are your plans for staying away from the i’m discouraged binge?

Thank you so much for your kind and supportive comments everybody. Jane, littleflower, Lyssa, and Sarah.

Sandy, I started doing tai chi again last Saturday. It’s so healing and supposed to help with balance.

Don, thank. We support each other through various things in life.

Jennifer, my friend. I know you have to deal with body issues as well. Hang in there.

Angela (babyjoggermama), thanks for the tip with an elliptical.

Debbie, I don’t swim and yes, I agree with you, we need to disprove those diagnoses and keep going.

Tatiana, I am so sorry!! Please take care of yourself and do whatever you need to. Here for you!

    That’s fantastic you lost 5 lbs. :)

I’m sorry to hear about your ankles and the tendonitis. I know how frustrating it can be to want to do something and be stopped by the pain. You are in my prayers to get well soon.
